Twin Star
On
May 13th, 2004 Diamond’s new twin, the DA42 Twin
Star, received its EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency)
certification. The type certificate was received by Christian
Dries, CEO of Diamond Aircraft, at the Berlin International
Aerospace Exhibition (ILA 2004) only 2 ½ years after
launch of the program and 18 months after first flight.
The first non-stop transatlantic crossing
by a diesel engine powered aircraft in general aviation.
On August 16th, 2004 remarkably, the twin diesel engine DA42
Twin Star was flown from London, Ontario, Canada to
Porto, Portugal, Europe with only one stop, in St. John's Newfoundland,
Canada.The total amount of Jet fuel consumed for the crossing,
72 gallons (272 l) cost less than US$ 200! Read more
